Letter to my 13 year old self:
The birth of Bloom Potential
I discovered positive psychology, and my life changed! Positive psychology is the science of human flourishing, and applied approach to optimal functioning. It is the study of the strengths and virtues that enable individuals, communities, and organizations to thrive. In the course of obtaining my certification in Applied Positive Psychology, I became enamored with the concept of growth mindset, emotional intelligence, and resilience. I was consumed with the thoughts of, and imagined what my life trajectory would have been had I been exposed to this material sooner. I then wrote a letter to my 13 year old self informing her of all the new knowledge I had acquired; the skills and tools I had learnt and how these tools will help her learn, develop her strengths, build resilience and equip her for life. I informed her that learning these social and emotional skills will enable her manage her anxieties, cope with pressures, learn from failure and adapt to change. I excitedly informed her of what I call the “Winning Mindset,” the Growth Mindset, and how she can cultivate it.
The letter to my 13 year old self gave me an epiphany of my calling for the next season of my life…which is to equip teenagers with the skills and tools to reach their full potential as thriving, caring, successful, and responsible citizens.
The letter to my 13 year old self inspired the creation of Bloom Potential!
